Gynecology » Fibroids
To treat uterine fibroids, we offer a range of the most advanced modalities - ranging from the simplest to the most innovative. All are geared toward minimizing recovery time and maximizing effectiveness.
Uterine fibroid tumors can cause a variety of symptoms including heavy or prolonged periods and bleeding in between periods. Such fibroids may also cause pelvic pain and pressure, even infertility. Often, additional symptoms occur because the large or misshapen uterus is compressing nearby abdominal organs.
In the past, hysterectomy was the preferred treatment. Fortunately, today we have a variety of treatment options.
Options that we offer for the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids include medical therapies, radiological procedures, and surgeries such as:
- Office hysteroscopy
- Uterine endometrial ablation
- Hysteroscopic myomectomy
- Laparoscopic myomectomy:
Often performed in an outpatient setting so that an overnight stay is not required.
This is a minimally invasive technique.
- Uterine artery embolization
If these procedures fail to control your symptoms, our physicians are trained to perform minimally invasive major procedures including laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy; laparoscopic total hysterectomy; and vaginal hysterectomy.
