Beth Israel offers up-to-date genetic testing and counseling services to patients, their families, and their referring physicians. Our physicians and genetic counselors are specially trained to diagnose genetic problems and analyze family histories. Once we have determined whether a condition may be inherited, we give patients the knowledge and support necessary to make informed decisions.

Assessment of your baby’s risk for genetic birth defects caused by but not limited to:
- Age of the mother
- Family history of a birth defect or genetic disorder
- Ultrasound findings.
Carrier testing for recessive genes that occur most frequently in certain ethnic groups. Such testing includes screening for:
- Tay-Sachs disease
- Cystic fibrosis
- Sickle cell anemia
- Thalassemia major or minor
Prenatal diagnosis of genetic disorders by:
- Chromosome analyses
- Biochemical analyses
- Molecular analyses
Chromosome analysis of:
- Amniotic fluid
- Couples with recurrent reproductive loss
- Patients suspected to have genetic syndromes
