Gynecology » Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery allows us to fulfill our goal of providing a high level of care while minimizing the risk and extent of intervention. Patients are treated with medical and non-surgical therapies whenever possible. However, when surgery is needed, we aim to alleviate these conditions with laparoscopy.
Laparoscopic surgery utilizes miniature incisions in the abdomen to perform the same operations as major surgery without the extensive incision and with a shorter length of stay and recovery. This decreases the time it takes you to return to work and your normal activities.
One incision is placed at the umbilicus; and one to two smaller incisions may be placed in the lower abdomen. The surgeon places advanced tools through these incisions to help perform the procedure. Our surgeons and operating rooms are equipped with advanced instruments to perform a host of routine and difficult surgeries.
Some conditions that can be treated with laparoscopy include endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, and urinary incontinence. Procedures that can be performed with laparoscopy include:
- Infertility surgery (tubal reconstruction, etc.)
- Removal of damaged tubes
- Excision of scar tissue
- Removal of ovarian or pelvic cysts
- Laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy
- Laparoscopic total hysterectomy
- Bladder, vaginal or rectal prolapse surgery
- Work-up and treatment of pelvic pain disorders
