Beth Israel OB-GYN
Obstetrics

Childbirth is one of life’s most exciting, challenging, and memorable events.  Here at Beth Israel, our goal is to provide our patients with a positive childbirth experience through high-quality, compassionate care.  Our multidisciplinary staff, progressive technology, and inviting facilities combine to provide the best health care for your diverse needs.  From low-risk to high-risk, midwives to perinatologists, Beth Israel covers the full spectrum of obstetrical care.

To ease your childbirth experience, we offer:

  • Personalized Care
Our highly-trained obstetrics team, nurses, anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) assist your personal physician or midwife in providing exactly the care you need and want.
  • Diverse Caregivers
Our staff includes physicians and midwives, both of whom provide complete, quality care.
  • Round-the-clock Service
Our neonatologists and pediatricians are available 24/7
  • Departments Located on One Floor
Our state-of-the-art labor and delivery suite is on the same floor as our Operating Rooms (OR) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  If you need such options as epidural anesthesia, an operating room, or specialists skilled in high-risk pregnancy and delivery, they will be immediately accessible.
  • Alternative Therapies
If you wish to avoid medications, we offer non-medicative options such as visualization, position changes, massage therapy and aromatherapy.  Our specially-trained nurses and doulas administer these therapies.
  • Immediate Pain Relief
A full range of in-house anesthesia options and anesthesiologists who are available 24 hours a day provide the best choice of pain relief for your needs.

We understand that the difficulties of childbirth do not end upon delivery.  The average hospital stay is 2 days after a vaginal delivery, and 3 to 4 days after a cesarean section.  To make your stay more comfortable, our Postpartum Services include:

  • Family Support
Private rooms can be equipped with a spare bed so that your partner can stay the night.
  • One Nurse for Mother and Child
A postpartum nurse who is familiar with your needs and those of your baby will personally tend to both of you.
  • Lactation Consultant
Available 5 days a week, our lactation consultant will help with any of your questions or concerns.
  • Breastfeeding Support and Education
You can attend breastfeeding classes or receive individualized instruction on breastfeeding from your postpartum nurse.  The Ob/Gyn Department at Beth Israel Medical Center is currently applying for certification from the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Program as a site that supports, protects and promotes breastfeeding.
  • Placing Your Baby in Your Room
Rooming-in is available, or mothers may choose to have their baby remain in the nursery.
  • An Upgraded Postpartum Unit
We have completed the first phase in upgrading our Postpartum Unit.  We aim to create a unique, beautiful, patient-focused space that will better serve you.
